abstract:
Clam transplantion was performed in Venice lagoon aiming at evaluating both the environmental quality of two differently impacted areas and the different response-times in the transplanted organism. The biomarkers herein applied, i.e. aldheide dehydrogenase and catalase activities, neutral red retention test and reburrowing rate, generally revealed a worse condition for the samples transplanted into the most impacted area. However due to some techical problems concerning manipulation of organism in the field and to the difficulty for getting good controls, it is advisable to carry out further studies aiming at validating this procedure in field-assessment of environmental quality in Venice lagoon.
