abstract:
The advent and artillery affirmation imposed since the late fifteenth century a defensive apparatus reconsideration of European cities. So even at Cagliari did many earthworks; their plan and implementation undertook various professionals. During the sixteenth century the medieval towered city was transformed into a fortress bastioned and fortified" alla moderna", as demonstrated by the archival and cartographic sources in particular. One look that, except for a few changes, also keeps in the seventeenth century. This paper aims to focus particularly on the maps of the city in the seventeenth century analyzing maps preserved in the Archive of the Crown of Aragon in Barcelona and the General Archive of Simancas.
