The mussel Mytilus gallorpovincialis was used as a bioindicator in the monitoring of a marine area near a gas-platform. Variations in heavy metal concentrations have been observed during the study period. These differences have been attributed to the influence of gonadal development. However, heavy metal levels do not differ significantly from that ones generally found along the Italian coasts.
