abstract:
In 1558, Philip II convened an extraordinary session of Parliament with the purpose of gathering resources to organize the Kingdom of Sardinia defense against the Franco-Ottoman threat; the Sovereign also allocated 20,000 ducats from the Treasury of the Crown, in addition to the donation. Besides the previous fragmented measures, dictated by the specific situation, it is the first time - both at central and peripheral level - that the need for organic intervention is taken seriously into consideration. The Parliament stalled for two years, during which the alert for the Ottoman attacks slowly weakened, making the need to build an organic defense of the Kingdom no longer necessary.
