Academic Article
Publication Date:
2007
abstract:
The paper concerns the production and the iconography of a specific group of corinthian plastic vases of archaic age. As far these plastic vases, generally labelled "squatting comasts", the Author suggests the adoption and interpretation of near-eastern iconographies by corinthian potters during the orientalizing period. Furthermore, through the study of the iconographic repertoire and few epigraphical sources, the Author suggests a link between the vases and the content, with particular regard to the question of the arcahic perfume trade. The article concerns also the trasmission of the iconography into the greek-eastern repertoire.
