Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L). Originated from Southern Europe, where it is widely cultivated (Spain, Southern Italy, Turkey, Morocco and Syria). It is a basic food crop in developing countries such as Asia, Africa, and Central America. In India, where it is commonly known as gram or Channa, an amount equal to the sugarcane acreage of the whole word is exploited, making it a culture of remarkable economic impact and value
