abstract:
In this paper, after a brief description of environmental factors and human activities that affect Mediterranean ecosystems, the main methodologies used to measure and estimate the functioning processes of ecosystems, at different temporal and spatial levels, are illustrated. Methods and tools applicable at leaf and ecosystem scale are described. Results from different experiments conducted in Sardinia are shown, as examples of potential for assessing energy and mass exchanges in the ecosystems at daily, season, and annual scale.
