A new class of artificial ionophores has been rationally designed and synthesized linking to a tetrafunctionalized L-treitol spacer two rigid hydrophobic 3Ò-hydroxy-5Ñ-23,24-bisnorcholanic units and two flexible hydrophilic oligo(ethyleneglycol) chains.
