abstract:
Model polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) bound graphite electrodes have been thermally treated between 473 and 673K and their surface changes monitered by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The C 1s, F 1s and O 1s spectra showed charging characteristics that could be directly correlated to the TGA data and the changes in surface composition and structure. In addition, the surface properties of the model electrodes have beeen correlated with absorption properties and the electrochemical performance of the real PTFE bound carbon electrodes.
