abstract:
Building a geo-database on geo-
hydrological phenomena (landslides,
floods, sinkholes) represents the basic
activity for the complex elaborations
aimed at the spatial and temporal pre-
diction of future events and their pos-
sible consequences. The collection and
organization of data, together with the
management of the database structure,
is of extreme importance for the practi-
cal technical use of the catalogue. A new
database structure, LAND-deFeND 1.1,
designed and developed by CNR-IRPI
is here presented. It is a database struc-
ture that allows to record, organize and
manage non-homogeneous information
on geo-hydrological events (landslides,
floods, sinkholes) occurred in the past,
able to overcome many of the limitations
highlighted in the databases for Italy.
The database has been implemented in
the framework of a project involving Civil
Protection Department of Apulia region,
in order to collect available information
on geo-hydrological events occurred in
Apulia after 1992. The structure of the
database is then presented, illustrating the
methodology used to collect information
and record data in the database. The col-
lected data are presented, with particular
attention to a complex event, in order to
highlight the potential of the structure.
