abstract:
The Regnum Sardiniae and Corsicae was created in 1297 by the Pope Bonifacio VIII for James II the sovereign of the Crown of Aragonin the context of the crisis for ruling Sicily. Nevertheless, the king should conquer his new domain, as he started in 1323. This conquest --longer and more complex than expected-- was much more than a simple military act. Our scope is to underline that both the identity of the island was altered through the changes involved and, in this challenge, the institutions played a central role. For this reason, Sardinia became an example of political institutions reflecting and promoting a social --and territorial-- identity.
