abstract:
These fragments of the fifth prose version of the Roman de Troie present a text that is quite close to the original. Despite their chronological and typological differences they depend on a common model, which challenges current understanding of the manuscript tradition of Prose 5. This part of the tradition, better understood thanks to these fragments, reflects the immediate and continued success of Prose 5 and its use in different textual projects, in particular with respect to its original setting in the Histoire ancienne jusqu'à César. The analysis of illuminations and decorations of the fragments shows that these manuscripts were probably made in the most prestigious workshops, linked directly or indirectly to the royal court, between the late fourteenth century and the second half of the fifteenth century.
