Perspectives in Membrane Distillation

The attractive advantages and interesting engineering characteristics of membrane distillation (MD) have gained significant attention from industries and academia. New approaches have boosted research activities related to novel applications and the fabrication of membranes and membrane modules specifically designed for MD. This chapter summarizes the recent development of MD process, process engineering aspects (e.g., membrane characteristics and module design), technical advancements and limitations, and finally, applications and future perspectives of MD.
