The ACARISS project (Increasing knowledge of the environment and risks
related to pollution in the schools with experimentation) promoted by the Tuscany
Region aims to connect school work with the research world, developing innovative
approaches to facilitate learning of the scientific disciplines. Researchers and teachers
cooperated in the creation of teaching modules applicable to classrooms using Inquiry
Based Learning. Another goal of the ACARISS project was to increase students' awareness
about academic coursework and occupations that promote skills and abilities in
scientific disciplines. Further, the project aims to strengthen the relational competences of
teachers to promote teaching for facilitating student autonomy. The project includes an
evaluation of the effectiveness of the intervention by comparing it with a control group.
