abstract:
In this work a numerical tool that uses a dual time stepping method is developed for the simulation of unsteady incompressible turbulent free-surface flows around ship hull. The algorithm is based on a pseudo-compressible Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes Equations (RANSE) solver, already used in conjunction with a surface-fitting approach for the numerical simulation of flows in steady regime. Numerical simulations of the unsteady flow around fixed square cylinder, as well as steady and unsteady flows around fixed and oscillating circular cylinder at different Reynolds numbers, are considered as validation test cases; comparisons with available numerical results and experimental data are presented. The flow around a ship hull with forced roll motion is considered as example of practical application of the proposed algorithm.
