Tempi funerari nella necropoli di Grotta Gramiccia: problematiche e potenzialità della seriazione dei contesti nel rapporto con l'ideologia funeraria della prima età del Ferro

This paper presents an overview of Grotta Gramiccia, the earliest necropolis of Veii. In the attempt of creating the new seriation for the tombs of this necropolis, the team currently involved in the publication of 1913-15 excavation has encountered a series of problems in applying statistical methods to this case study. Most of the issues are related to the limited number of artifacts per tomb and to the scarce occurrence of types in the cemetery. The goal of this paper is to demonstrate that only by looking at the interaction between the statistics method of seriation and the funerary ideology is possible to gain a comprehensive understanding of the life of this Early Iron Age necropolis.
