Response Times Evaluation of PROFINET Networks

In this paper we address Profinet, an industrial communication standard based on Ethernet, designed to be employed at different levels of factory automation systems. After a general description, we focus on the two application layer protocols specified by the standard, namely Profinet CBA and Profinet IO. In detail, we present the results obtained from a set of tests we carried out. Regarding Profinet CBA, the tests have been executed on an experimental set-up, whereas for Profinet IO we show the outcomes of some numerical simulations.
