On the concept of reusability in Educational Design

The concept of reusability, which is already well established in severa! branches of engineering, is stili little understood and practiscd in the fie id of educational software. This papcr is based on the work carried out within the DELTA project ESM_BASE (Educational Systems bascd on Multi media Databases). It makcs an attempt to mode! the concept of rcusability in the ficld of education by discussing the basic requiremcnts for the actual reusability of multimcdia educational componems. The papcr dcscribcs also the major archi tec tura! choices made by thc project and some of thc rcsults achievcd to date.
