abstract:
The book concerns the East Greek pottery from the votive deposit of the Demeter sanctuary at Catania (Sicily). The study has been carried out through a typological, stylistical and archaeometric approach (NAA analyses) in order to identify the production centres. The research is the result of a international and multidisciplinary collaboration between the Author and the Research Group of the Project on the study of East Greek Pottery in the Mediterranean. The pottery is presented through a rigorous classification of the specimens. Each class is preceded by a general and updated picture of the regional production. In the final chapter, the various classes of East Greek pottery have been reconsidered into the wide framework of the East-Greek imports in Sicily and Magna Graecia during the archaic period. The NAA chapter (written by Michael Kerschner and Hans Mommsen) concerns the methodologic approach and allows to clarify the region or place of production of the different pottery classes (comparing the results with the East Greek Pottery database of the Bonn University) and to identify some local production.
