Rural Landscape rigeneration through innovation economy, cases from Italy and Italy

Abstract Urbanization and rural socioeconomic transformation have put rural landscape at risk worldwide. The ICOMOS-IFLA, Principles (2017) highlights the importance of adaptive transformation and sustainable management of rural landscape yet without providing actionable tools. Regeneration proves to be an effective tool to contemporize the morphology and function of rural landscape while maintaining their values and generating environmental and socioeconomic benefits. However, it remains questionable as how generation can actually be undertaken in a way to address the environment-economy/conservation- development trade- off and balance socio-cultural and economics needs. In response the paper based on literature review and empirical examples from China and Italy, is imed to cast light on the value adding and innovation during the regeneration process. To this end, it first discusses the issue of multifunction ability of rural landscape. Second, it looks into the role of innovation at social and economic levels in promoting rural landscape regeneration while fighting against poverty, depopulation and climate change.
