abstract:
The marine recreational fishery was defined in Italy with Law No. 963/1965 governing all marine fisheries and distinguishing between commercial, scientific and recreational fisheries. The Presidential Decree No. 163911968 defined the fishing gears allowed and the maximum catch per day. Despite the socio-economic relevance of marine recreational fishery, data and studies in this sector of marine fishery are scarce and fragmentary. The aim of this article is to summarize the current knowledges on recreational fisheries and highlight some of the interactions with artisanal fisheries in Italy.
