Il luogo del nous: alcuni aspetti dell'antropologia in Filone di Alessandria

The paper deals with some meanings of the term nous in Philo of Alexandria's philosophical and exegetical treatises, paying special attention to the theory of the tripartite human nature (nous/pneuma, psyche, soma) and the relation between nous and pneuma. The analysis of the texts highlights that Philo does not mean pneuma as a material substance, as previous Greek authors had always done, but as a psychic, non material component. This is due to the conflation of ancient naturalistic tradition and exegetical work on Genesis.
