BGK/MC method for the simulation of shock waves in binary mixtures

Abstract:
The BGK/Monte Carlo method previously developed by the present authors is generalised in order to treat multi-component gases. The generalised method is based on sampling separately the density n, average speed and static temperature T of each component, and including the relevant collision processes by separate relaxation terms with different characteristics times which are function only of n, T and of the target component. Results of the generalised code are shown to compare satisfactorily with DSMC calculations in a test case of a 1d blast wave produced by heat deposition in a rarefied He/Ar mixture. © 2002 by the author(s).
