Dielectric PVDF-ceramics nanocomposites: how the coating of the filler affects the final properties

Conference Paper
Publication Date:
2019
abstract:
Polymer-ceramics nanocomposites are spreading in the field of printed wiring boards and microelectronic packaging because they provide an ideal solution to combine the good dielectric and electrical properties of the ceramic filler with the resistance to high electric field, the low-temperature processability and the suitable mechanical properties of the polymer matrix [1]. The dielectric properties of these composites can be in principle tunable by changing amount, dimension and type of filler. In this work, 0-3 connectivity nanocomposites based on poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) and containing 30 vol% of ceramic inclusions were prepared by solution casting followed by compression moulding. In particular, BaTiO3 nanoparticles were employed as such or coated with shells of SiO2 or TiO2 at different thickness in order to study the influence of surface coating on the final properties of the composites.
