abstract:
Increasing fire-resistant materials performances is possible only developing new fiber reinforced inorganic composites. Recent news reports have highlighted how, in the building sector, some of the vulnerabilities in terms of fire safety related to the energy efficiency improvements in buildings have been somehow underestimated. The use of porous materials and crawl spaces, although undoubtedly advantageous in terms of thermal insulation, may be the origin of critical situations whenever, after the installation, these porosities host materials and/or unexpected living organisms (notably the case of wasps) which, also after rehabilitation, bring fuel material in inaccessible dry and well aerated places, worsening the fire resistance progressively over time.
