Zeolites and modified clays in environmentally sustainable building materials

The aim of this chapter is to overview the many different uses (actual and potential) of zeolites and MCs in the construction sector, considering the environmental benefit of their incorporation into building materials. This chapter does not deal with undeliberated use, as that known in traditional pozzolanic materials (where the occurrence of zeolites or MCs was not known, e.g., in Roman times) or for calcined clays, for example, cocciopesto mortars, which were not designed by intentional modification of clay properties.
