abstract:
Dye sensitised solar cells (DSSC or Grätzel cells) are photovoltaic devices of last generation in which a chromofore (dye), anchored on mesoporous TiO2 semiconductor, absorbs the light promoting current circulation. A way to improve the DSSC efficiency is the possibility of modulating the chromofore properties by chemical design. A series of novel benzodithiophene-containing organic dyes have been synthesized, their opto-electronic properties and DSSC cell performances investigated.
